TERMS AND
CONDITION
ENROLMENT AND TUITION FEES
1. Students must be 16 years of age or over
2. To become a student of Stanfords School you will need to do the
following:
a) complete our application form in full
b) indicate how long you wish to study
c) pay your fees
d) pay your accommodation, if required
e) do a placement test
3. As soon as we receive your completed enrolment form, and your fees,
we will confirm our acceptance of your application by sending you a
Letter of Enrolment. You will then take it to the British Embassy or
High Commission in your country to apply for a student visa or an
entry clearance. If you are already in this country, you should attach
it with your application to the Home Office for extension of your
visa.

ALL BANK CHARGES MUST BE PAID BY THE STUDENTS
Please note that:
1. a minimum of 14 clear working days have to be allowed for clearance
of cheques drawn on a UK bank and 28 days in the case of a foreign
bank
2. a fee of £50 will be charged if a cheque or local draft is not
honoured. The fee is £150 in case of foreign drafts.
3. Bank transfer can take a long time. Please make sure all
arrangements are made in good time, as we cannot confirm any bookings
until we receive confirmation from our bank that payment has been
received.
4. All fees due to the school must be paid in full, prior to the
commencement of the course, however, students wishing to pay by
instalments may do so provided the following instalments schedule is
met and an extra surcharge of 10% of the full fee is paid with the
first deposit. The minimum deposit is £200 fee and subsequent
instalments cannot be less than £100.

If instalments payments are not made on the due dates, the course will
be terminated forthwith. Any additional fees paid will be treated as a
new course booking.
5. Students booking from overseas are not recommended to pay by
instalments, as this could have a bearing as to whether or not they
are granted a visa to study in the U.K.
6. An administration fee of £25 is also charged for all applications.
7. Tuition fees do not include, travel, accommodation, social
programmes, external examination fees, personal and health insurance,
bank charges or course materials, i.e. books, cassettes, photocopies,
pens, pencils and paper.
8. Fees are not refundable or transferable to another student under
any circumstances.
9. There is no reduction or refund in fees where a course includes a
public holiday
10. Students are reminded that courses can only be booked through
Stanfords School of English. Courses purchased through any other
source will be deemed null & void.
COMMENCEMENT AND CLASS TRANSFER
1. Commencement date can be altered prior to the commencement of the
course booked. An additional charge of £25 will be made for each
change.
2. The commencement date can only be changed to a maximum of 4 weeks
after the original booked commencement date. If the commencement date
of a course is changed and a visa is subsequently refused, the
original commencement date will stand.
3. No extension to courses will be allowed by payment of additional
fees. Any such additional fees paid will be treated as a new course
booking.
4. Courses will not be extended due to any unauthorised absences
and/uncertified illness
5. All class changes must be requested in writing and be approved by
the Principal. Class transfers cannot be made during mid week for the
same level at the same time. Please note that change of class is
subject to your class teacher’s approval and availability of class
space.
6. If a student fails to start on the commencement date or leaves the
course prior to the completion of the course, the student’s name will
be struck off the class register without any refund.
7. The school cannot guarantee the time and/or location of a student’s
course, although every effort is made to place student’s in the
location and at the time of their choice.
8. The school reserves the right to change any teacher, class time
and/or, combine classes if necessary and to transfer from one class to
another
9. It is the responsibility of the student to book a course
sufficiently in advance, in order to complete all visa requirements,
if necessary. No refund or extension to course bookings will be given
if formalities are not completed in time. Please note payments by bank
transfer can take a long time (4-8 weeks) and letters can only be
issued after the School has confirmation from its bank of the receipt
of your transfer.
LANGUAGE LEVEL
If after the School's Placement Test, a student is found to be at a
lower level than the minimum start level for his/her course, Stanfords
School reserves the right to place the student in a class more
appropriate to their needs until an appropriate language level is
reached. There is no right to financial compensation for any such
course change. This also refers to examination courses, such as the
Cambridge First Certificate.
EXAMINATIONS
It is the student's responsibility to make sure all examination
entries and fees are paid on the due dates. Some late entry places may
be available and will be charged at a higher price. These places, if
available, will be on a first come-first served basis and after these
places have been taken, NO late entries will be accepted.
ATTENDANCE
All students are reminded that it is a condition of their VISA that
they attend at least 15 hours tuition per week. The School will not
tolerate unauthorised absence and uncertified illness. All students
are expected to provide a written note explaining the reasons for
their absence, if it is due to illness you are required to submit a
doctor’s note. Stanfords School of English reserves absolute right to
refuse admission to any student or to dismiss any student without
refund of the tuition fees in the event of misconduct or
unsatisfactory attendance or work. In any event the school will not
support a student’s application for renewal of their visa if the
student’s attendance is less than 80%.
HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT
Please note that if you enrol or four weeks or less then you cannot
take any holiday. If you enrol for four weeks or less you are not
entitled to take a holiday. If you enrol for 5-11 week then you may
take 1 extra week holiday, 12-23 week course will entitle you to take
3 weeks holiday, 24 weeks or more weeks course allows you to take up
to 6 weeks of holiday.
All students must book their holiday at least 1 week in advance, and
for a full week commencing on a Monday. A fee of £12.00 is payable for
a holiday letter. Holidays cannot be taken mid-week or carried forward
from one course booking to another. The maximum authorised holidays
are:

Students who have paid for less than 8 weeks are NOT entitled to any
authorised holidays. Holidays can be changed and/or cancelled. An
Administration Fee of £12 will be charged for this
REFUNDS & VISA REFUSALS
1. No refund will be given under any circumstances if the immigration
authorities refuse a visa due to the following reasons:
(i) lack of fund to support you to study
(ii) past or present poor attendance
(iii) providing incorrect information to the School
(iv) providing incorrect information to the immigration authorities
(v) working without a work permit
2. If the refusal of visa is for other reasons a full refund less £100
for administration charges will be made provided the School is
notified in writing and the original documents issued by the School
and immigration authorities are received by the School within two days
of any such refusal.
3. If a visa is withdrawn, no refund will be given
4. If a student visa is refused but the student is granted another
kind of visa, whether to enter or remain, no refund will be given.
5. If a student is dismissed for poor attendance or misconduct, no
refund will be given
6. If the course has already started, no refund will be given
7. No refund will be given for any deposits and/ or rents paid in
advance if due notice of 2 weeks not given to the school
8. Refunds can only be made in the name of the student, regardless of
who paid for the course. Refunds will only be made by cheque or bank
transfer. Any bank charges must be paid by the student.
ACCOMMODATION
1. A damage deposit equal to two weeks rent is required, but will be
refunded if the premise is undamaged or the required notice period is
given.
2. Rents should always be paid in advance and an administration fee of
£25 is payable for each placement.
3. It should be noted that when placed with a host family or
independent flat/lodgings, the school acts in a capacity of an
introducer only.
4. Rents are not refundable or transferable to another student under
any circumstances after occupation. Rents are fully refundable if
notified two weeks prior to occupation.
DISCIPLINE
1. In the case of flagrant misconduct or a proven criminal offence we
reserve the right to expel any student, having given due notice. In
the event of such expulsion, no refund of fees will be made.
2. All students are expected to behave in an orderly manner. Wilful
damage to the School's property or injury to personnel is considered
to be gross misconduct. Students will be held personally responsible
for rectifying any wilful damage to the School's property or injury
personnel in the case of such misconduct.
FORCE MAJEURE
It is a basic stipulation of the agreement/contract between students
and Stanfords School of English or its representatives, that neither
Stanfords School, nor its representatives are liable for refunds or
damages, howsoever arising, in cases where Stanfords School is unable
to fulfil any services to which they are contractually bound because
of teachers disputes, insufficient demand for any classes, or other
reasons which are beyond the School's control.
LIABILITY
1. Students are advised that the school, its employees and its
representatives accept no liability for personal injury and/or loss or
damage of personal property on the school's premises, whether by fire,
burglary, theft or otherwise. This condition applies to public and
private places including the school hall of residence or when students
are on school's trips or excursions.
2. The school is not responsible for the safe keeping or delivery of
any fax, post, etc sent to the students at the school addresses. Nor
is the school responsible for the safekeeping of exam results or
certificates.
GENERAL
1. Students may from time to time be photographed, the photographs of
which may be used in the school's promotional/publicity material. The
school reserves the right to all photographs which may be used in any
way the school sees appropriate in promoting itself. The copyright to
all photographs shall belong to the School.
2. No personal calls or messages can be taken at any time by the
school on behalf of the students, other than in a real emergency
3. All mobile phone must be switched off during lessons, and mobile
phone should not be used within the school's premises
4. It is the policy of the school not to divulge any personal details
of students to a third party, other than to the appropriate
authorities, without the students’ prior consent
5. In all cases the decision of the Principal will be final and
binding on all students and teachers.
